What’s New in the AutoCAD 2021 Release

AutoCAD 2021 has been released and is ready for you to download and get working. AutoCAD has recently introduced state-of-art web and mobile tools so that you can access, review and edit your drawings wherever you are on the road, in the office or at home.

Google Drive Integration

To add to the mobile functionality already available in AutoCAD with OneDrive and Dropbox, you can now access files stored on Google Drive directly using your Autodesk ID subscribers can edit and save drawings without moving them from your drive space.

Automatic Drawing History

The new drawing history feature could be a potential game-changer when tracking changes in drawings and their history. If you are working on one of the platforms mentioned above then on the View tab you will notice a new Drawing History button. When you select this button it opens up the drawing history panel, allowing you to sign in to your chosen platform and view the history of the drawing. It doesn’t stop there though, not only can you see the history but you can compare these historic versions with the current version in the same way as the drawing compare feature introduced in the 2020 version.

External Reference (Xref) Compare Changes

Now you can compare the changes in your Xref in using the compare tool without leaving your current drawing. When a drawing reference changes you will receive a notification asking you to update and/or compare the reference. Changes will be highlighted red or green clouded just the same as the drawing compare and new drawing history compare tools.

Enhanced Block Palette

The blocks palette was added in the 2020 version of AutoCAD and in 2021 it’s been improved further. You can synchronize your blocks to a cloud storage location so that you can access them on many different devices as well as the new addition of a Libraries tab, which lets you reference blocks from other drawings and utilize them in your current drawing.

Revision Clouds

Revision clouds have new automation within them which automatically defines the arc length depending on the scale of your drawing and size of your cloud. You can still define them manually or change the arc length property to a specific arc length afterwards if required.

Trimming and Extending

Trimming and extending, well what can I say… finally!! Now we can trim and extend to the next relevant object automatically, no need to select what you wish to trim or extend to. Also, you can trim hatch patterns now as well.

Measure Geometry

The quick measure geometry was added in 2020, now it’s gotten even better. Select a point within a watertight closed object and the MEASUREGEOM command will tell you the area of that enclosed space, not only this but it will automatically detect islands within that space and subtract them.
